The 4 Steps of Paintless Dent Removal
Thanks to advances in the material that car and truck bodies are made of, the traditionally time-consuming (and expensive) methods of paint removal are a thing of the past. Because of these changes, Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) has swept across the industry and is not very commonplace. But how does it work?
Step 1 – Damage Assessment
The technician will examine the dent, where it is on the vehicle. They will assess the best way to get access to the dent.
Step 2 – Gain Entry
Carefully removing panels of the auto body, tail lights, or even interior panels, the technician will gain access to the dent. In order to perform this quality auto repair, the technician needs complete access to the dent.
Step 3 – Reassess the Dent
Technicians use special light boxes determine the angle, depth, and shadow of the dent, allowing them to place tools precisely and accurately.
Step 4 – Dent Removal
Using their Paintless Dent Removal tools, technicians apply slow pressure to the dent until it reshapes to its original position. In many cases, the work is finished. Only the most extreme dents require any buffing afterward.
Why PDR?
Aside from the time and money savings, Paintless Dent Removal is a solution that actually fixes the problem. In traditional dent repair, the dent is filled with a body filler and then painted to match the original coat’s color. Because it doesn’t address the actual problem (the dent itself) and instead fills in the gap in the exterior, the dent is still there. Paintless dent removal ensures the auto body returns to its original shape, maintaining its structural integrity.
